The the industry has shown that they are completely incapable of policing themselves and dealing with issues. Where filth is found online the perpertrators laugh at requests to take this down. The industry is mocking real people who want to see proper control.
– When the internet was just being used by a few nerds they could do what they liked but it has grown so everyone is touched by it. It may come as news to you but the interner is like mass media, almost like real media such as TV and Radio and Newspapers and just like ream media it needs regulation.
– Who knows one day internet might even take over altogether and if we do not regulate the Net at all, over time we are going to abandon the notion of content regulation entirely.
– There is illegal content such as child abuse images; harmful content such as advice on how to commit suicide; offensive content such as pornography. We cannot simply ignore this.
– Spam, scams, viruses, hacking, money laundering, identity theft, grooming of children, perverts and blasphemy .. Criminals are all over the internet, we need to act now.
Internet – If you do not regulate yourselves, then the political and public opinion machines will force you to. Do not underestimate the power of these bodies. Most users want regulation and control. What we need is a body with teeth to take control, punnish the perverts and perverters and apply adequate protection for audiences against offensive and harmful material.

I feel there are compelling points, such as responsibility of speech that you have address and acknowledge very well. Also, I feel that ‘Nerds’ are offensive and should be removed from the internet.

I’m afraid I only have a few minutes to spare (I often browse your site whenever I have a few moments to myself) so I will keep this brief. I agree with everything you’ve written in your blogs so far. I think it’s unacceptable that people should be allowed to speak their mind in such offencive ways. My collegue disagrees though, he quoted somene called Lenny Bruce, saying “Take away the right to say “f**k” and you take away the right to say “f**k the government”. What would you say in response to this? I found myself repeating my earlier statement – “couldn’t they just say it more politely?”, and he again quoted the above ‘Lenny Bruce’ person.
Could you clarify? Should we be offended at the message (the wish to tell those in positions of authority to “f**k off”) or just the way these anarchistic children of Satan phrase it?

I’m immensely amused by how naive you are about the way the internet works. Unfortunately I don’t have time at this present moment to go into exactly how many different agencies around the world work together to keep up malware, child porn, etc….
I do want to ask you one question though. Who? Who would run this centralised internet governing body? The internet is world wide and not even the infrastructure is not owned by any one government / company / organisation. The technology itself is certainly not owned by anyone. It’d be unfair for any one government / company / organisation to become a governing body for the internet because they could then prioritise what they want, restrict what they want etc. Net neutrality is a very important thing… The internet has only evolved so far and so amazing due to net neutrality. These ‘nerds’ you speak of made the internet and evolve it’s technologies at a rate you could never begin to understand.

I couldn’t agree more. I believe adults can enjoy adult porn if that’s what their into, but the internet is loaded with this stuff and a kids life can be ruined in an instant by one click of a mouse. There needs to be a under 18 internet and a adult internet and access to adult sites only being allowed by entering a drivers licence or other identification proving ones age.
I have went to adult sites before and don’t have a problem with it, but our kids have got to be protected from this.
Internet central governing body is almost ready to start operation to administer users around the globe.
